2008 Summer Speedwork Schedule
Each week
between Memorial Day and Labor Day, FLEET FEET staff members direct
structured interval sessions tailored to help runners peak for the fall
racing season. Workouts are designed to be beneficial to 5K racers and
marathoners, alike. All abilities are welcome. You don't need to be speedy to do speedwork. You just need to want to get speedier.
At the
first session, participants
will run a 1-mile time trial. The time trial
(1) allows the runners to determine which of the four training groups will
be most appropriate for them, and
(2) provides them a performance measurement that will allow them to
determine their improvement over the season.
In 2007, over 200 people attended the first week's workouts,
making FLEET FEET Summer Speedwork the largest weekly training group in Missouri!
If you are planning on being a regular participant, we suggest that you do
your best to attend this "bar-setting" workout each year.
The next three months consist of various interval sessions, concluding with
Graduation Day - another 1 mile time trial. On average, participants
improve their mile time by about 20 seconds and, more importantly, improve
their strength and resistance to injury. In
2007, the average improvement was 27 seconds, tying our best ever group
improvement. Click here
for the proof.
*Wednesday
morning workouts are more informal than their weeknight counterparts.
A FLEET FEET coach may not be present every week. Print the workout
off the website and bring it with you, so that at least someone knows the
workout!
