- How you got started
running:
I’ve always loved doing anything athletic. Our high school
did not have a cross country or a track team, so I participated
in basketball, volleyball and softball. I ran off and on through
high school and college. My first race was in August of 2000
at the age of 30. It was a local 5 mile Fair Run and it was
the first time I had run 5 miles straight! I was hooked and
started running year round. Our son was 4 and our twins were 2
at the time so it was a great way for me to get out and have
some time to myself. I had another (our final!) baby in
September, 2005. It’s a great feeling to be back out running!
- Favorite Foods:
lasagna, cheez it’s, peanut butter, ice cream
- Favorite Movie:
Ice Age, A Lot like Love
- Best Experience
through Running:
All the awesome people that I’ve met! Completing my first
marathon was exciting. I don’t take anything for granted and am
just thankful every day that I am able to get out and run.
Running provides a good balance in my life.
- Craziest / funniest
moment through running:
While on a run at the Nature Reserve, I saw a goose sitting
in the middle of the trail. This was nothing unusual. I
continued to run toward it assuming it would move as I got
closer. Instead, as I approached, I was attacked by the goose!
He jumped on my back and knocked me to the ground. He was
really pecking / biting me as I was frantically trying to get
away. The next time I went there to run there was a big sign
that said “Beware of the goose. He has lost his mate and may be
violent.”
- Most embarrassing
moment during running:
I started a run at the Nature Reserve the same direction as I
had hundreds of times before. On this particular gravel loop
there is a gate that you pull open on one side, and one that you
push open on the other side. I usually don’t slow down very
much through the gate that I push on since it opens quickly and
easily. This day, however, I ran and pushed on the big metal
“pull” gate and plowed right into it. I gave myself a bloody
nose and a glowing bruise on my face. When I got home and my
husband saw my face and the blood all over my shirt, he thought
I had been attacked by a deer or some other wild animal.
- Most Exotic running
location:
Kauai was a beautiful place to run! The Las Vegas ½ Marathon
was a neat run down the strip!
- Favorite Cereal:
Honey Bunches of Oats , Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Oh’s
- Favorite Ice Cream
Flavor:
may be boring, but just plain vanilla
- Prefer trails or
roads:
will take trails over roads any day
