Andy Koziatek
Get-to-Know Me:
- Date of Birth -
January 25th, 1982
- Training Distance -
Focusing mostly on longer distances, 10Ks on up to the
marathon but will jump in some short races from time to time.
- Years Running -
Started running summer of 1997
- Favorite Locations to Train -
Castlewood State Park trails, Chubb Trail beginning in Lone
Elk, Creve Couer Lake, Katy Trail, Queeny Park, and local roads
out in West County
- Favorite Race -
Fair St. Louis 10K when they still had it. Now it would
be the "Da Deer Run Run XC 8K" (european xc style)
- How you got started running -
Freshman year in high school people tried to get me to join
the xc team, I said I would next year. Next year came and
I realized I had better start running that summer!
Needless to say, the two main reasons were I told others I would
and the second all because of a woman.
- Favorite foods -
Anything pasta - Chicken Parmegiano Pasta and a Groovy
Smoothie from Red Robin's is the ticket to a happy life style!
Animal crackers and gummy bears are a close second...
- Favorite movies -
300, Rambo ('08 version), Miracle, Prefontaine, Pirates of the Carribean, Ice Age 1 and
2, and many others
- Best experience through running -
Meeting all the people at meets and through the teams I have
been on in past years. Early morning trail runs at
Castlewood or Chubb with friends or on my own. My final
year while attending UMKC discovering Landahl Park Reserve (21+
miles of mountain bike trails) and running there almost every
morning and eating breakfast at IHOP afterwards ($16 or more
just for myself!)
- Running traditions you may have -
Been running the Ballwin Days 5K fun run the past several
years - I grew up there and ran it a few times while in high
school (loved the old course, much more hillier). Usually
will eat a bagel till I feel full on race morning and listen to
some tunes to get the blood pumping - visualization is another
thing I will always do for a race.
- Craziest moment through running -
First time I have ever fallen on a run - fall of 2005 I was
in the middle of a long run and looking for a bathroom. As
I went to turn around my foot slipped on the gravel rocks
beneath me and I landed hard on my side as my elbow (or a rock)
hit my lower ribs knocking the wind out of me. I laid
there a minute then just sat around, slowly walking it off
before running again - I was at least 5 miles or more away from
my car and had planned to run longer but cut it short.
Stopped off at a nearby fire station and had them clean me up as
I was bleeding from some minor cuts. Turned out that I had
cracked one of my ribs on the left side - that was a pain, and
was 2 weeks out from the Lewis and Clark Half Marathon.
Needless to say that I ran the race finishing 2nd and then took
time off to let the rib heal up. Wasn't letting a little
set back like that derail my training for that race!
- Most exotic running location you've been to -
Nothing really exotic about this one - Colorado. Went
up there for a XC meet in college and stayed at a camp site
about 9,000 ft. altitude. The park right by us was awesome
- not to mention that it snowed the night we got there.
Was fun running around there in the day time though. My
next place would be Cedar City, Utah or Flagstaff, Arizona -
awesome places to run at!
- Favorite cereal -
Hands down Count Chocula!
- Favorite ice cream flavor -
EDY'S Nestle flavor (cookie dough basically) - eat 1 pint of
that before most workouts and races...oh so good!
Chocolate Chip and Rocky Rode are close seconds.
- Prefer trails or roads?
Trails is where it is at.
