What
is the race date and start time?
Race day is Sunday, October 3, 2010. The marathon and half
marathon will begin together at 7:15am.
How long is the course open (are walkers
welcome)?
The Lewis & Clark course is open a walker-friendly 9 hours! Any
participants not finished with the half marathon course will be
asked to move to the sidewalks after 4 1/2 hours. The second half of
the marathon is on the Katy Trail and will not be affected by road
openings.
Why were the last
10miles of the full marathon course altered?
Participation in the full marathon has grown tremendously in the past few years. In 2009, almost 900 marathoners finished the event. That is nearly three times as many as finished in 2007! The last half of the “old” marathon course was an out-and-back section on the Katy Trail. After last year’s event, the feedback we received was that the course had reached capacity. Trail congestion created by the two-way traffic made it difficult for marathoners to maintain a consistent pace. Also, over the years we have heard from many runners that the course is a bit “too flat” and that they would prefer some variance in terrain to break up the physical and mental monotony.
In 2010, early registration numbers led to a prediction that we will have 1100 marathoners on course. As such, we began working with the community to alter the marathon course so that the finishing stretch would remain on the easy-on-the-legs, mostly-shaded Katy Trail, but be free of oncoming runner traffic and too much “sameness.” In late summer, we finally received all of the permissions necessary to announce the updated course. While the marathon course now includes two uphills (the steepest of which gains only about 75 feet over one mile), the elevation map still compares very favorably with that of most marathons. See how it compares to the 2008 version of the Go! St. Louis Marathon.
In summary, the updated marathon course offers reduced course congestion and more changes in scenery – and we even anticipate that the more varied terrain will be appreciated by the majority of participants.
Is the Lewis & Clark course a Boston
Qualifier?
Yes! The course is USATF certified and a Boston Qualifier.
Where do I park?
All entrants must park at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater (usually
referred to as "Riverport"). The parking lot will open at
5:00am. The Amphitheater's
parking attendants will direct you to your parking space. Please
note that entrance to the parking area can be accessed from the
north and south. We highly recommend no later than
6am to ensure plenty of time to park and get to the
start.
How do I get back to my car after the race?
Shuttle service will be available for participants and spectators
continually throughout the day. Shuttles can be accessed from the
pick up area behind the finishers’ village in Frontier Park.
What about spectator parking?
Spectators should park at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater as
parking is limited in downtown St. Charles. Shuttle service is
available to take spectators to the finish line after the race
start.
Can I pick my packet up on race morning?
No! All participants must either choose to have their packets mailed
or to pick their packet up at a FLEET FEET Sports store. Store
selection or mailing choice is available when registering for race.
Store hours are 10am-8pm Monday-Friday, and 10am-5pm Saturday.
Is there a registration limit?
No. The race is open to an unlimited number of participants.
However, all participants must register by midnight on Sunday,
September 26. You can
register online.
I would like to run the full but I am not sure that I'll
be ready for it in October. Which race should I enter?
Since neither event will fill to capacity, we suggest you wait to
register until you know which event you will likely run. If you
would like to register now and assume you will run the full
marathon, please register for the marathon. You will be able to drop
to the half marathon later.
I am already registered, but would like to switch races. Is this possible?
Yes. Please email
Jake
for more information on how to switch races.
What is the last day for race packets to be mailed?
The last of multiple packet mailing dates will be September 24th – a
full 10 days before race day.
Is there a marathon
relay option?
No. The events available for Lewis & Clark are individual
half and full marathon
distances.
Are IPODs allowed?
There are no “IPOD police”, but it is preferred that one
earbud be left out so you can hear: 1) direction calls from
volunteers and 2) vehicles, bikes, and other runners on the course.
Safety of ALL participants is our major concern and we ask for your
assistance with this by keeping one earbud out.
Will Pace Teams be available?
No.
Can I start the race early?
No. The race start is 7:15am. If any runners are on the course
before then, they will be disqualified and not receive a start or
finish time.
What if I want to change races during
the event?
You have the option to change races (ex. Drop from the full marathon
to the half marathon) through Saturday, October 2nd, at 5pm. If
you choose to change races during the event, you will cross the
finish line but receive no finish time. Race changes should be
submitted to
Jake until Wednesday, September 29th. After that time, you will
need to make any race changes in person at packet pick-up.
Are strollers, roller blades, and dogs
allowed?
Strollers, roller blades, and dogs are prohibited on the race
course.
