July 16th, 2009: FLEET FEET Flyer #
41
Are You a Zen(sah) Master?
Hello, Friends!
"Why does thou run so many mile about?" asks Richard III in Shakespeare's play of the same name. Well, I guess it's because there are so many miles to run! With countless local races, training programs for fall marathons, and cross country preparation (can you believe cross country season is almost here?), St. Louis has been a hub of running activity.
How's your training going?
If you're having lower leg issues or just want to improve your performance and recovery, check out our Zensah Sleeves feature article. Practical information about this great training tool can help you decide if Zensah Sleeves are for you. And feel free to break in those Zensahs-- or give your training a boost-- at our Fenton Sunrise Social runs and Nike Run Club training runs. (It's much more fun than running by yourself!)
How can we help you train? We look forward to
serving you and hope to see you, soon!
Sincerely,
Your Friends at FLEET FEET St. Louis

Zensah Sleeves: Feel the Technology.
Got Zensahs? If you've got shin splints, sore calves, or tired
legs,
Zensah Compression Sleeves are for you.
You've seen them. At races. On the roads. In the store. There is a purpose to those crazy knee-high socks we're wearing, and it's more than just a fashion statement.
Why wear Zensah Sleeves?
Zensah Compression Sleeves are a revolutionary training tool taking the
athletic world by storm. Zensah's patented pin-point compression and
chevron ribbing create a dual-action design to simultaneously treat shin
splints, ease tight calves, enhance performance, and improve recovery.
The inverted "V" ribbing on the front of the sleeve mimics the same
taping schematic used by athletic trainers in the prevention and
treatment of shin pain, while the back of the sleeve provides specific
compression and support for the most important muscle for running, the
calf. Increased blood circulation and oxygen supply to the muscles means
improved performance, reduced soreness, and faster recovery.
Who can benefit from Zensah Sleeves?
Runners
Triathletes
Cyclists
Walkers
High School and College Athletes
Marathoners
Cross Country Runners
Travelers (Zensah Sleeves are great for long flights and car rides!)
Did you know...
-Zensah fabric is constructed with silver ions to help regulate body
temperature and fight bacteria?
-Zensah Sleeves can be worn under a wetsuit?
-The name Zensah comes from the Italian word senza, which means
"without," highlighting Zensah's seamless ("without seams") construction
and belief that athletes should be without limits.
Zensah Compression Sleeves aid in the prevention of shin splints, calf tightness, calf cramping and strain, achilles tendon pain, leg swelling, and leg fatigue. Strategic compression promotes blood circulation and oxygen supply to the muscles, reducing muscle soreness and fatigue, enhancing performance, and accelerating recovery. Moreover, unlike most compression calf sleeves on the market today-- which are made from non-breathable neoprene or latex-- Zensah's Silver Ion Fabric is breathable, moisture-wicking, temperature-regulating, and non-irritating.
Zensah Sleeves are available at FLEET FEET Chesterfield, FLEET FEET St. Charles, FLEET FEET Fenton, and at our online store. Colors: Black, Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink, and Purple. Price: $19.99.
With a little help from Nike, you can ensure your kiddos are
ready to run!
"A runner's a runner, no matter how small." (Or so goes the slightly modified saying.) That's why Nike has created a line of high-performance gear designed specifically for young runners. Nike's youth apparel features the same design technology as its men's and women's collections, boasting strategic seaming, moisture-wicking fabric, and lightweight breathability-- keeping kids cool as the temperature heats up. Fun colors and sleek designs ensure kids look as cool as they feel.
From the popular Tempo Track Short for girls to the Core Training Top
for boys, Nike's youth apparel offers a variety of styles to meet the
needs of young runners. Nike's patented DriFit fabric wicks sweat away
from the skin, keeping kids dry and helping to regulate body
temperature. Styles and colors vary. Prices range from $21.99 to $24.99.
Nike youth apparel is available at FLEET FEET Chesterfield, FLEET FEET
St. Charles, and FLEET FEET Fenton.

FLEET FEET in St. Louis Magazine
Rocket science, running shoes, and FLEET FEET St. Louis? (Yes,
there is a connection!)
Fitlosophy took the spotlight in a recent St. Louis Magazine feature highlighting FLEET FEET's "Fit Experience." In the article, FLEET FEET St. Louis owner, David Spetnagel, reveals the bond between physics and a proper running shoe. Ever wondered about the science behind shoe fitting? Check out the article for a few behind-the-scenes facts about Fitlosophy and FLEET FEET St. Louis. (Hey, it's not every day you read an article discussing both rocket science and black toenails.)

Summer is in full swing and the FLEET FEET Racing Team is tearing up the roads! The Ballwin Day’s 28th Annual 5K/1Mi had great weather, with many FFRT members placing in their respective age groups. Andy Koziatek took 1st overall, while Rhonda Saltzman finished 2nd overall for the women. Laura Schmidt and Jess Brosamer-Senger took 1st and 3rd in their age group, respectively, and Cheryl Bergin finished 3rd in her age group. Others who raced the 5K included Jon Petter, Chris Braun, Stacey Kalish, Thomas Hrabal, and Jim Yount. The Adult 1-Mile held after the 5K saw a FFRT sweep, as Andy and Cheryl finished 1st overall for men and women, while Chip Self took 2nd in the Masters. Chris Braun also doubled up that morning by running in the mile. Congratulations to all who raced!
Rainy conditions didn't stop the FFRT from participating in the annual O’Fallon Firecracker 5K, which also included a 10K this year. In the 5K, Josh Bond led the way, finishing 4th overall and 2nd in his age group. Cheryl Bergin placed 1st for her age group, while Jim Gunderson took 2nd and Ashton Bond took 3rd in their respective age groups. For the 10K, Chris Mizel took the overall honors, with Wade Padgett finishing 1st for his age group. Michael Allen, Mike Maraccini, Katrina Wingers, Amanda Robinson, and Jim Yount all competed in the 10K as well. Way to go, everyone!
This past weekend saw quite a few big events take place, including the Crystal City Moonlight 10K, the MLB All-Star Charity 5K, the Joker’s Wild Half-Marathon, and the South County YMCA Triathlon. The FFRT was well-represented at each event, with a handful of members running back-to-back races!
Saturday night was the annual Crystal City Moonlight 10K, which provided a great chance to escape the heat with its 10PM start. Andy Koziatek claimed the overall win on the hilly course, with Josh Bond coming in 7th overall and 3rd for his age group. Christine Fisher took 1st for her age group, while Caron Herrin also placed in her age group. Chris Braun, Ashton Bond, Tracy Schmidt, AJ Hoeltzel, and Dillon Sheppard were among the others out enjoying the night race. Great job!
Sunday morning came early for those who raced Saturday night, but fatigue didn't stop them from joining the other FFRT members at the local Sunday events. The weather was perfect for running! Downtown St. Louis drew close to 8,000 runners for the first ever MLB All-Star Charity 5K. Amy Marxkors had the highest finish among the FFRT members, taking 4th in her age group and placing 12th overall for the women! Laura Schmidt finish 8th for her age group, while Chris Burke and Caron Herrin took 13th and 15th, respectively, in their age groups after racing a 10K the night before. Vicki Maupin placed 18th in her age group. Others out running included Tracy Schmidt, Jared Ehlers, Jon Petter, Chris Braun, David Bennett, and David Donald.
Christine Fisher bounced back well from the 10K Saturday night as she rocked the Joker’s Wild Half-Marathon, taking 3rd in her age group! Cheryl Bergin, Jason Dement, Aaron Koch, and Amanda Robinson were among the others competing in the 3rd annual event.
In the South County YMCA Triathlon, Brian Schoenholz continued to perform well, coming away with the overall win. Katrina Wingers took home 1st in her age group, while Kay McVey took 3rd place in hers. Great job to everyone who raced this past weekend!
